While I deal with a department that seems completely incapable of holding on to copies of final exams I have now submitted three times, here are a few blogs and posts worth reading:
- Heba blogs about her life in Gaza.
- Autumn Sandeen at Pam’s House Blend examines the intersection of race, gender, and public bathrooms. Among other things, the analysis shows how imposing fear of violence on women, and white women in particular, amplifies a whole series of other biases and bigotries; this is a prime example of why every oppression must be eliminated if any are to be.
- Brownfemipower’s take on the Linda Hirshman article that supposedly addressed intersectionality (essential to read in its entirety) included this statement on mainstream white feminism as it stands today:
This is not a movement.
I repeat, this is not a movement.
It’s an exclusive networking club.
This is how I often find myself feeling when encountering ignorance about and hostility towards autistic individuals on mainstream feminist websites. I feel like the sort of woman who is not welcome, who is not part of what the women with the most relative power want to present as being within the range of being covered by the term ‘woman’. My experience, of course, is not identical to the experience of a woman of color. Among other things, I still look like I belong. The similarity, however, is important to note. How many women’s concerns are being excluded? (The answer is more than most.)
- Elaine Vigneault breaks down pro-meat propaganda around Vitamin D; I probably got all I need of that vitamin for the next several months over the weekend.
- Fuck ‘feisty’.
- Kurt Cobain’s Interrogation of Hegemonic Masculinity
- The Worst Editor in the World

I think they’ve got it sorted now. Honestly, it’s pretty much par for the course here and wouldn’t have bothered me too much if it weren’t for the head of the division deciding to blame me instead of her own disorganization.
