Travel Update

Read my latest story, "A Tale of Two Birthdays", at 52|250.

I spent the last few days climbing around ruined Angkorian temples which has made for a surplus of awe-inspired photos (and the experience of feeling the massive scale of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, and others through the soles of my feet up through my thighs), though it makes rather dull narrative.  For example: I climbed hundreds of laterite steps, saw crumbled stone monuments and a remarkable view, then climbed down again. Repeat until exhausted.

Today I’m resting in Siem Reap after donating blood at the Kantha Bopha Blood Bank, which is attached to the local free children’s hospital. Unlike in the US, the type they need most was A and AB, but I know that my type (O+) can be used by a number of blood groups in a pinch.

Everywhere I go, Cambodians are talking about the current trouble with Thailand. At temples, people are even praying for protection for the Kingdom of Cambodia. While I am nowhere near the flashpoint, I am a bit concerned that they may close the border thus spoiling my plans to fly back to China from Bangkok.
