A Pair of Poems in Listenlight 19

Read my latest story, "The All-Nighter", at 52|250.

There’s a certain synchronicity to my work that appears in Listenlight 19; the Tarot art that appears alongside my poems, and throughout the issue, was already being integrated into the issue when I submitted my work. Synchronicity has been a major theme in my life in recent years: I had four poems published in viviparous blenny’s synchronicity issue, and the relationship between myself and the person to whom Old Soul Mates is dedicated has been marked by dramatic instances of synchronicity. The very fact that we met at all (at an academic conference on vampire fiction) is one.

When I began Gifts of the Tarot, part of my idea was to intentionally introduce opportunities for synchronicity into my work by drawing a card to work from each day, but my dedication to the project wavered and so the project has stretched out over a few years. Now I’m back to working on it on a daily basis, in part because synchronicity has brought such richness—yes, even joy—to my life. I’ve also begun a similar project using the I Ching; eventually I hope to bring them together in accord with what has been a part of my overarching poetic project since I wrote a haiku about Advent in second grade: syncretism.
