Check out my photograph, Erqi, in GUD Issue 6.

when your continent rises on magma wings
don’t expect to devour the rest

you will land again
a few jagged feet from where you began

though your ash wraps the earth
like cotton in the hands of an overzealous nurse

or have you left enough wounds
to justify that gauze

that gaze
of diamond faces

smudged, buried with their fingers
where modest ranch homes fell

before the mortgage could payed:
someone planned it well

As part of Blogathon 2009, I’m posting a poem every half hour for twenty four hours to raise funds for Friends International, an organization that helps street children in Southeast Asia and beyond. Please sign up to sponsor me or donate directly. Everyone who sponsors me will receive a copy of the revised poems as a chapbook if they email their snail mail address to ekswitaj[at]gmail[dot]com. Cheers!
